Rachapudi Kamakshi Memorial Gold Medal for ‘Young Geospatial Scientist 2011’

To encourage young scientists, Rachapudi Kamakshi Memorial Gold Medal for ‘Young Geospatial ScientistTM’ has been instituted by Rachapudi Kamakshi Memorial Trust. The award consists of a  Gold Medal, Certificate of Merit and a Citation Plaque  The award will be presented to the selected young researcher during the annual India Geospatial Forum  8-9  February 2012 at New Delhi.

Nominations
Nominations are invited from scientists, engaged in research work in any of the areas related to Geospatial Information Science and Technology, who is not more than 35 years of age, as reckoned on 31 December 2011

Nominations for the award should clearly state the scientific contribution supported by relevant documents. Self nominations are permitted.

The last date for receipt of the nominations is 15 December 2011.

Criteria for selection
Basic criteria for the award will be the research work carried out in the field of geosaptial science and technology with innovativeness and appropriate use of scientific methodology, backed with quality write-up, social relevance and commercial acceptability of the idea and the adequate usage of geospatial technology

Selection process
An eminent panel of jury will evaluate the nominations and interact with the nominees, if required,  before selecting the awardee.

Past awardee
The first award for the year 2010 was presented by Shri Narendra Modi, Chief Minister of Gujarat at Geospatial World Forum 2011  held at Hyderabad International Convention Centre, Hyderabad on 18 Jan 2011.

An eminent panel of jury,  Dr Prithvish Nag, presently Vice Chancellor, Kashi Vidyapeeth, Varanasi, Prof NL Sarda, Professor of Computer Science  & Head,  Advanced Lab in Geospatial Information Science & Engineering, IIT Bombay,   Dr. Hrishikesh P Samant, Associate Professor,  Department of Geology, St. Xavier's College, Mumbai and Maj Gen Dr R Siva Kumar, CEO NSDI, Department of Science & Technology, Government of India., selected the winner of the award.

The recipient of the award for the year 2010 is Ms. Thiyam Tamphasana Devi, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, India for her work on “Identification of Potential Infiltration Zones through Overlay Analysis in GIS Environment using Reservoir Frequencies, Spreads and Other Parameters”
